    Long 17-19mph ride Sunday 8/31

I'm looking to get regain some endurance as I recover from my injury and would like to do a 4hr easy ride this coming Sunday.  I'd love some company.  The pace will not exceed 19mph and will most likely hover in the 17mph zone as all I'm doing is getting "saddle time" back into my butt and legs.  15 weeks of sitting on the sofa eating bon bons and watchin' Oprah has taken it's toll not to mention turing 50 during that time.

An early start time will allow us to get back home with plenty of the day left for other holiday weekend activities.  I'm currently putting a route together but will probably not finalize it until Friday or Saturday.  Tentatively we'd start at Longbottoms and ride up and over Skyline, down and around Sauvie Island and somehow meander our way back to LBs.  Perhaps back through NW, up through Wash Park and then down, down, down to LBs.  Or out and back up Rocky Point, left on Skyline to Logie, turn right and then the roller coaster ride back down the west side.  I'm flexible and not looking for anything killer but I don't really want to do any of the usual west side rides and nice climb or two never hurt anybody.

If you're interested let me know.  It'll be a no drop ride, we'll regroup at the top of any serious climbs and we'll stop for some food/drink at the Sauvie Island store.

Ride time could be either 8am-12p or 9am-1p.  I'm leaning towards 8.

    Hi Kevin,

    Sounds like fun!

I would be interested in joining you if I don't end up doing the other long ride that some of the race team folks have planned this Saturday (85-95 miles). I am sure I will be cooked the next day if that happens.

If I do the regular club ride, I'm in for a slower, long ride on Sunday! (Sans being cooked from that! ) :-)

9 a.m. better for me as I will be riding to LB from Beaverton.

I am interested in a long 17mph ride assuming that the Sat ride will be easy. Somehow I lost fitness during the Summer so I hope that I can keep up on the hills! Starting from LB is good for me. 8 or 9 is fine. Oh to be 50 again!

Another suggestion if you are open.  I'm in Nashville as I type and wont get home in time to ride on Saturday.  Sunday is out as well.  I'm looking for a Monday ride, possibly Vernonia to Seaside, as my last ride before I follow doctors orders and hang up my bike for the season (gasp, moan, saddness).

Biggest issue is logistics but where there is a will, there is a way.  Its an excellent ride for a 17 to 19 pace.  Mostly flat except a short climb over a very low spot on the Coast Range and a short hill before Seaside.  Going around the Seaside Roundabout on a bike after a beautiful, scenic ride is a definite emotional high.  71 miles total.

Hey Dan, thanks for the offer but I'm gonna pass on the 71mile option.  The holiday traffic combined with the logistics of getting multiple riders back to Portland kinda make my mind spin.

Right now I think I have 5 riders set for a Sunday ride.

Good luck if you ride and be safe.

I'm in for the Sunday ride.  Due to the silly football game I will have to limit my Saturday ride to a short route. Not sure if I'll ride on Monday also but if I do, probably not the route Dan described, (although that would be nice some other time!)

Linda, I'll be riding the Dairy Creek route as well on Saturday.

I'm in for KRhea's Sunday ride. Any idea yet on the route and starting time? Route = no preference, Time = 0900 works best for me.

I'm thinking maybe 8:30-9 on Sunday, I'll be getting home pretty late Saturday night.

As for tomorrow, Dairy Creek might be all I have time for. :-(  The posted routes look good, though.

I'll add my name to list for this ride also.

I'll check back later for our start time.

    Thanks,

Re: Long 17-19mph ride Sunday 8/31

Start time for my Sunday ride will be 9am at Longbottoms.  I need to roll on time so if you're late I probably won't be there.  The route will be a meander up and over the west hills via Springville Rd to Skyline then down Newberry to the Sauvie Island store. We'll see where we are time wise at the store and plot our return route from there.  There are numerous return options.

No matter how you get from Longbottoms to Sauvie Island you can't avoid some solid climbs and my route ideas include at least 2 if not 3 solid climbs plus rollers including one climb that's over 2.5miles long and another that's 3miles long.  The pace will be 17-19mph on the flats and the climbs will be every man/woman for themselves with regroups at the top of the major climbs, however, there will be no maps so be familiar with the west hills/Skyline area in case you decide you want to turn around and or ride a slower/faster pace.

Right I'm expecting at least 6 or 7 riders.  The more the merrier.
