    First responder kit suggestions

Based off of our CPR / First aid class we had on Sunday, I'm soliciting for suggestions of things we'd like to see in a First responder kit.  The thought is these kits would be carried by certified CPR/First Aid folks and would be given out before our Saturday Rides and returned after the ride was done.  Looking for small items that we can put into a pouch similar to what Zig and Mark showed us on Sunday.

Here are some items I had:

    1. 2-3 pairs of non-latex gloves
    2. 2 emergency blankets
    3. childrens asprin
    4. few gauze pads and adhesive medical tape
    5. barrier device with bite guard / one way valve

in mine I've got assorted bandaids, Tylenol, Excedrin and Ibuprofen (yup, all three), an emergency blanket, barrier device and non-latex gloves (now :-) new :-) ), antibiotic, antacids, moleskin (blisters can happen on hands on long rides), some "wash-up" antibacterial wipes, wet wipes, little kleenex packet, freebie sunscreen packets...

    Matt:

I'll work on a list of essential items we should have.  I'd be happy to work on getting the kits together.  I can talk with CPR LifeLine about getting all of the supplies we will need for these first-aid kits through them.  How many kits do you think we should have?  We could use zip-lock bags, or the little blue bags that Zig showed us  yesterday.

Let me know how that sounds.

Thanks for coming to the class.

Mike, thanks for putting together some of the details.  Personally I'd love for each group that goes out to have one. ;)  Best guess, I'm thinking 10-12 at our peak.

Matt and Mike, thanks for working on this and for organizing the outstanding First-aid/CPR class for us. I was glad to hear that more classes will be scheduled so that more riders can have that training.

I am considering constructing several small first-aid kits to carry in the cars and with the bikes. If all 25 attendees are considering that plan, it seems that we could save everyone running around getting the supplies by offering a simple kit for sale. The breath barriers and the gloves seem to be the critical items. Is anyone else interested in owning multiple kits (the big unknown)? I would prefer to have the supplies on all of my rides and at other times. I heard there is a new medical suppy store in Hillsboro that may be interested in getting established in the community and may be interested in helping with this. I'll try to get there and ask.

I've got a survival kit in my car, and a couple of small kits I carry on rides, but I would be interested in a more comprehensive small "ride" kit (mine at the moment is mostly band-aids and drugs )

    Re: First responder kit suggestions

I spoke briefly with the staff @ CPR LifeLine and I think they will be able to get us much of what we will want in a first aid kit at a volume price.  I'll try and get some more details in the next few day and pass it along.

Thanks again for coming to the class and participating.
