Calling all Portland Veloites -- Especially You Beaverton Residents:
The Beaverton Bicycle Advisory Committee is coordinating the second annual Bike Beaverton ride. The event will be held Sunday, August 2nd. Festivities and the ride's start/finish will be held at Beaveton City Park (SW 5th and Hall Blvd.). We are looking to round up about 30 volunteers (don't worry they don't all need to be P-Velo members) to help with the following tasks:
a) direct riders to waiver table to sign waivers
b) direct riders who need bikes/helmets inspected to the appropriate tables
c) be available at START to help folks begin the ride
d) lead groups of riders out on the course during the ride
The event begins at 1:00 p.m., with the ride starting at 2:00 p.m. Volunteers should plan to arrive somewhere in the 12:30 to 1:00 timeframe (as the final details get ironed out, I'll keep you updated about the exact time). How many riders go off in each flight will depend on the number of riders who show up for the event.
This is billed as a family fun ride, so plan on bringing a cross/MTB/ or city bike and casual bike cloths (and helmet). If there is any additional information I can provide you at this time, please let me know. You can contact me directly at my e-mail mikebike@attglobal.net to volunteer. You can also see more details about the ride at http://www.beavertonoregon.gov/bike
I hope many of you will join me in helping with this event. It should be a fun event where we can help foster new riders -- young and otherwise.
Thanks
Mike Mulligan
