LiveSTRONG Challenge Volunteer Registration site is now open!

From what I hear, the Portland Velo rest stop at last year's LiveSTRONG Challenge was THE place to be.  This year will be even better, since we actually have a theme!  We're still planning the details, but a very creative Traci D'Elia has named it "Fly to the Finish".  It's going to be a kind of "Top Gun" theme - with propellers, aviator sunglasses, flags, you get the picture.  AND since Portland Velo is providing the "Wingmen" to accompany riders in on the last 10 miles or so of their LiveSTRONG Challenge ride, what could possibly be a better theme than that?

Reserve the date Sunday, June 29 on your calendar.

The LiveSTRONG Challenge Volunteer Registration site is now open.  The numbers on the right next to each code & associated position description show how many more volunteers are needed.  Let's fill them up with Portland Velo members, friends & family!

    Here's how to register:

    1. go to http://volunteer.livestrong.org/site/c.jkLXJcMLKpH/b.3995215/apps/ka/go/volunteerReg.asp

You can also get there from clicking the following links on www.Livestrong.org :
Get Involved ---> LiveSTRONG challenge --> Portland --> volunteer

    2.  Select the volunteer jobs from the following codes:

Position Name     Location                              Timeslot                                Number Available

Wing                   RS- North Plains USPS       1:00:00 PM - 5:00:00 PM on 6/29/2008           10

    RS-NPL-AM         RS- North Plains USPS        8:45:00 AM - 12:30:00 PM on 6/29/2008        18

    RS-NPL-PM         RS- North Plains USPS        12:00:00 PM - 5:00:00 PM on 6/29/2008       18

    3.  Register or sign in if you volunteered last year.  It will say "Are you a previous visitor? If so, Click here to autofill this form"

If you can't remember your password, but enter your login name correctly, your password will be emailed to you.

    4.  Once your information is filled out, it will take you to a summary / waiver page showing the position(s) you have signed up for, such as :

    Position Name     Location                         Timeslot                                                    Instructions
    RS-NPL-AM         RS- North Plains USPS     8:45AM - 12:30PM on Jun 29 2008
    RS-NPL-PM         RS- North Plains USPS    12:00PM - 5:00PM on Jun 29 2008

Print your waiver, and you're DONE!   We really want Portland Velo members, friends & family to staff the booth so they will get involved in carrying out our theme, so we need to sign up NOW!  What are you waiting for?

Re: LiveSTRONG Challenge Volunteer Registration site is now open!

To piggy back on this, the on course Ride Marshals are also up on the reigstration.  The position code is PVCM.  Once you register for the spot via the LAF site, please email me at matt@portlandvelo.net with your top 2 course preferences (milage and speed).  Please do this regardless of if you have already contacted me stating your interest!

In addition, if you are interested in being one of the PV Wingman, please contact me before you register!  These positions may have some added responsibility. :)

Less than 2 months to go!

    Re: LiveSTRONG Challenge Ride Marshalls

Can I register to be a ride marshall if I didn't get the first responder training?

I would ride the 100 mile...well, its the weekend after Elkhorn, and that means I'll either be in tip top shape to ride it, or I won't want to even look at my bike. :D

Jim, talk to me tomorrow at the ride.

Kristin, yes that isn't an issue.  Please email me when you get registered with your ride preference (that goes for you to Jim! I'm keeping everything tracked in my mail)

Jim & Kristin, thanks for registering!

Remember that we also need people in the booth at the LiveStrong village both days 6/28-6/29. I'll find out what the hours are and post it here.  This is our chance to get more visibility for Portland Velo.

Re: LiveSTRONG Challenge Volunteer Registration site is now open!

Less than three weeks to the LSC!  We are coming down the final stretch and need to solidfy our volunteers for the areas we are covering.  As of this morning we still need 5 more riding course marshals, and a number of volunteers for the AM and PM shifts at our rest stop in North Plains.  Last year the PV rest stop was kicking it in the rain, so I can only imagine what its going to be like this year in the awesome weather!

    Lets fill those last slots!

    Re: LiveSTRONG Challenge Volunteer update

I have signed up to be a Wing at RS-North Plains USPS from 1pm - 5pm.  My impression of that role is to sweep people in at the end of the day.  If so I could certainly help at the RS-North Plains USPS until I needed to start the sweep.  That being the case should I sign up for the 1pm - 5pm RS-NPL-PM too?  If the duties of those two overlap too much I could also sign up for the 8:30am - 12:30pm RS-NPL-AM.

     Thanks for the input.
