Alert: Start time change this week

The ride will Roll Out at 8:00 AM

7/4/15 - 8:00 am: INDEPENDENCE DAY (51.3 miles,  1,294 feet of climbing OR 40.2 miles, 1,000 feet):

We are again offering two route lengths so that everyone can be back early - i.e. before the real heat hits!  Both rides are the same until mile 27.8.  At that point the longer ride groups continue on the full route and the shorter ride groups take a left (from Thatcher) onto Purdin and head back to LaCie.

The Full route is a counter-clockwise loop over OR 26, through N Plains, back across OR 26 and on to Banks.  We then head out Cedar Canyon, cross OR 6 (caution) followed by the only significant hill - up Stafford.  Then we head down Strohmayer-KC-Thatcher to Forest Grove and a loop around Gales Creek, Stringtown, and Ritchey.  After riding through Forest Grove, we head home through Verboort and then across the normal Wren-Hornecker-Evergreen track.  The Short route differs in that it drops off the Gales Creek, Stringtown, and Ritchey loop.  Instead, at mile point 27.8 it turns onto Purdin and heads across Purdin-Verboort where it regains the route at the Verboort-Martin intersection (the first round-about).  From there it follows the same route home via Cornelius Schefflin, Wren, Hornecker, etc. Short route maps and Garnin files are available on the weekly ride e-mail.

The weather forecast during the ride is close to what we actually encountered last Saturday: mid-60's to mid-80's by 1:00pm.  Keep an eye on the forecast as the weather seems still volatile as we approach the weekend.

Portland Velo was founded in February 2006 by a bunch of folks (35 of us, actually) who simply enjoyed riding bikes together. Since then we've grown to over 400 members. Our philosophy is "It's All About The Ride" - join us for a ride and find out why we continue to be Oregon's premier cycling club.
