saturday rideTHIS WEEK'S SATURDAY RIDE

3/28/15 - 9:00 am: HOLLY HILL REVISITED (42.2 miles  1,915 feet of climbing):

This weeks route is largely flat with two climbs - Holly Hill and Clark Hill.  It can be shortened and neutered by simply deleting Holly Hill at the Laurel Store.  Review the route - it's a bit complicated.  We head south from the start down 229th-231st to Baseline. Then we head out Minter Bridge to Burkhalter.  Next it's to the Laurel Store via Farmington (cross 219) - Bald Peak - Campbell.  We climb Holly Hill and then back to the store.  Don't forget to look for the Boeing 727 “house” - about mile 15.5 as you loop right.  From there we take a nice loop through Scholls via Laurel - McCormick Hill - Vanderschuere to OR 219 and OR 210.  Next we climb Clark Hill - pace yourself, it's steep (2 miles) - followed by a great descent to Tile Flat.  Then it's heading home via Farmington and Rood Bridge to River Rd.  We pass Century High and head back in with a repeat of 231st - 229th to LaCie.  Again, those wanting less distance and/or climbing can simply drop off the Holly Hill loop at the store. The weather forecast is still variable -  it's calling for partly cloudy skies and ride temperatures in the high-40's's to high-50's.

Portland Velo was founded in February 2006 by a bunch of folks (35 of us, actually) who simply enjoyed riding bikes together. Since then we've grown to over 400 members. Our philosophy is "It's All About The Ride" - join us for a ride and find out why we continue to be Oregon's premier cycling club.
