saturday rideTHIS WEEK'S SATURDAY RIDE

8/29/15 - 9:00 am Roll-Out

Rainy Day II (42.9 miles,  1,162 feet)

Today’s ride is still on.  But give serious thought to your decision to ride.  It seems the most significant rain will be past by ride start – but, the route will be wet, winds are predicted at 20 mph - with gusts over 30mph - and the roads will be slick with residual oil.  So, be sure you are comfortable and safe riding in those conditions – and that you have adequate gear – i.e. fenders, good lighting, good rain gear, etc.  And, be alert that drivers may not be anticipating slippery road conditions. If you don’t think conditions are safe or worth riding in—please do not ride.

We are unsure of how many ride leaders will still choose to lead and be available – so, make sure you are comfortable to navigate and address road problems on your own.

The route seems appropriate given the forecast for Saturday.  It takes us up Pumpkin Ridge before heading west to Clapshaw Hill - Hillside and back through Verboort. We first head out Jackson School across OR 26 to the pallet factory. We traverse Shadybrook and then climb Pumpkin Ridge Rd.  From there we descend on Pumpkin Ridge DR and Old Pumpkin Ridge Rd to Mountaindale.  Then we head back across OR26 and out Harrington to Roy - restroom & water if needed.  We follow Greenville to Clapshaw Hill, do a bit of climbing, and then enjoy the descent and rollers of Hillside - always more work than they seem. Next it's through Verboort and heading home via Wren & Leisy.  Then it's Evergreen and Longbottoms for those in need of caffeine and community.

The forecast for this Saturday looks to be a real change - RAIN - with ride temperatures in the mid-50's to mid-60's.  THINK FENDERS & Rain Bikes!!

Portland Velo was founded in February 2006 by a bunch of folks (35 of us, actually) who simply enjoyed riding bikes together. Since then we've grown to over 400 members. Our philosophy is "It's All About The Ride" - join us for a ride and find out why we continue to be Oregon's premier cycling club.
