9/13/14: The route this week is IOWA HILL - CEDAR CANYON (52.7 miles, 1,784 feet) Saturday's ride starts out heading south on 229th/231st, continues south past Century High School and then onto Rood Bridge and Burkhalter – then crossing 219 onto Simpson.  The route then starts climbing with a left onto Riedwig and Dober – which have some short but much steeper pitches than the RWGPS map calls out – in the 8-10% range.  Then it’s a nice descent down Iowa Hill followed by another climb to the top of Blooming Fern Hill – the civilized way.  Then it’s quickly down Blooming Fern onto Fern Hill Rd.  Be cautious as the descent pushes 13-14% and is a quick stop and right turn at Fern Hill Rd.  Then it’s through Forest Grove and out Thatcher and Kansas City to Strohmayer - where you hit another hill and some great views.  Then you descend Stafford onto the Wilson River Hwy for a short while – turning right onto Cedar Canyon for some rollers and sprinting into Banks.  After Banks, it’s 15 miles or so of flat riding back to LaCie via N Plains.  The weather looks to be clear & sunny during the ride with temps in the 60's to high 70's – great cycling weather.

Portland Velo was founded in February 2006 by a bunch of folks (35 of us, actually) who simply enjoyed riding bikes together. Since then we've grown to over 400 members. Our philosophy is "It's All About The Ride" - join us for a ride and find out why we continue to be Oregon's premier cycling club.
